My Sustainable Home' with Lizzie: How to Use Less Plastic at Home

We are back with another 'My Sustainable Home' interview and this time we caught up with Lizzie, who is making amazing progress in tackling plastic waste in her home.
Read on to find out how she has reduced the plastic waste produced in her home and which Bower product helped her along the way...

What influenced you to start creating a sustainable home?

I moved out of my parents place at the beginning of lockdown, and I knew I had to make a change and start out with the aim to reduce waste. I was really inspired by the school children and young people that went on strike from school in 2019, I felt so proud of them and it pushed me to think about my own impact on the planet.

What were the first changes that you made when cutting plastic waste from your home?

I started thinking about the fruit and veg I buy that's plastic wrapped. Wherever possible I started buying loose fruit and veg. I then started swapping all our washing up liquid and soap for refills, using tupawear instead of sandwich bags for leftovers.

Can you give a sustainable tip or plastic-free swap?

Use things you like! It may sound simple, but I love using sandwich wraps because I love the pattern and they make my fridge look cheery! It's also easy to make the changes when you make it easy for yourself. I would always forget my reusable bags and would feel guilty about buying a carrier bag, but now I have a fold up bag in my handbag, car, pocket etc so I'm never caught out!

What is your favourite Bower Collective product and why?

Without a doubt it's the Grapefruit Hand Sanitiser, it smells so gorgeous, almost like sweets! I also have quite sensitive skin and it's very gentle and doesn't seem to irritate me like other soaps would. A very close second is the Wooden Dish Brush with replaceable heads. It looks great, works perfectly and I know that I'm wont just be adding to landfill sites when it's finally time to throw it away.

Thank you so much to Lizzie for taking part. If you would like to take part in our 'My Sustainable Home' feature, please get in touch at hello@bowercollective.com.
