Celebrating International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day, and we want to celebrate by shining a spotlight on the women of Bower Collective!

Equality within Bower has been in place from the very beginning and we're proud that 40% of the Bower team are women. Let's get to know them a bit better...

Emily

Job role: Senior Content & Community Associate

A career achievement I’m proud of: Having been a part of the Bower team from the very beginning has meant that I’ve watched our community grow from a handful of people, to over 125,000 in just 2 years! It’s a privilege to create a space for like-minded individuals to inspire and encourage each other to create positive change for the planet.

A personal achievement I’m proud of: My biggest accomplishment would have to be running a marathon on my 25th birthday. I began running through the Couch to 5k plan and soon got the running bug!

Nicky

Job role: Retail Product and Operations Lead

A career achievement I’m proud of: Before joining Bower, I was Managing Director of Sustainable Kitchens, I started the role at 27 and being a woman in a joinery business had its challenges but am very proud to have led the team that became an award winning kitchen design and installation business.

A personal achievement I’m proud of: Sustainability and community have always been a big part of my life and for 2 years I ran  a community kitchen as a volunteer every Sunday in Hackney. We would collect fruit and vegetables from local supermarkets that were about to be thrown away and turn them into delicious meals for the community. It became a hub for those in need of a nutritious meal and company, it was lovely to be part of something that created such a personal impact.

Lily

Job role: eCommerce Product Manager

A career achievement I’m proud of:

I’m a big advocate for learning from each other and also paying it forward. In 2015 I established ProductTank in Bristol which is a community of Product Managers running regular events and now has over 1500 members. At the start of 2019 I also launched the weekly podcast ‘The Product Experience’, with co-host Randy Silver, which helps Product Managers all over the world to advance their Product knowledge and careers.

A personal achievement I’m proud of:

When I was 14 I walked out of a singing audition because I was too scared. Since then I’ve alway wanted to perform on stage to make up for that moment! Just recently I sang on stage for the first time and finally conquered my fear and actually really enjoyed it.

Alison

Job role: Purchasing & Supply Chain Associate

A career achievement I’m proud of: Moving 8000 SKU’s around in a Warehouse to make this more efficient from a picking and packing process and proving to the 120 staff that it was a worthwhile exercise.

More recently, it is working for a company that is solely looking at more efficient packaging / products to help the world become a better place for humans and for all living things.

A personal achievement I’m proud of: I used to be a large lady, but got into the gym and running, I lost over 6 stone and have managed to keep this weight off.  I am proud of running 3 half marathons and receiving better finishing results each time.
